House Demolition in Geelong

A full house demolition is more than knocking a building over — it is disconnecting services safely, dealing with any asbestos the right way, taking the structure down in a controlled order, and sorting and removing everything so the block is left clean. Geelong's housing runs the full range, from Victorian and Edwardian weatherboards in Newtown and Geelong West to post-war brick in Belmont and Highton and larger double-storey homes, and each comes down differently. We handle the whole job from the paperwork to the last skip.

What a full demolition involves

Taking a house down safely is a sequence. Services — power, gas, water, sewer, telecommunications — are disconnected and made safe first; nothing starts until that is confirmed. Asbestos is identified and, where it is present, removed under the correct licensed process before demolition, because the house cannot come down with it still in place. Only then does the structure come down, in a controlled order with an excavator, damped down to keep dust off the neighbours. Materials are separated as they are removed, footings and slabs are broken out, and the block is cleared and levelled.

Geelong's housing comes down differently

A Victorian weatherboard in Newtown, a post-war brick home in Belmont and a large double-storey in Highton are three different demolitions. Older weatherboards are often on tighter blocks with heritage-era neighbours close by and frequently contain asbestos sheeting; brick homes generate more heavy rubble to break out and cart; double-storey removals need more care with the drop and the reach. We plan the method to the house and the block rather than treating every job the same.

Clean site, sorted waste

A demolition is only finished when the block is clean. We break out footings and slabs, clear the debris, and rake the site level so it is ready for whatever comes next. Materials are separated as they come out — concrete, brick, timber and metal recovered for recycling where practical — which is better for cost and for landfill, and keeps the job tidy rather than a single mixed heap.

Planned around your block

Access is half the job on Geelong's older, tighter streets. We plan machine access, where the bins and trucks sit, protection of the neighbours' buildings and fences, any trees that are staying, and the street frontage, so the demolition is controlled and the people next door are not left with a mess. On newer estate blocks in Armstrong Creek or Grovedale the same planning keeps the job fast and clean.

Disconnections: who does what

Power, gas, water, sewer and telecommunications have to be formally abolished — not just switched off — before a house can come down, and each sits with a different utility. Electricity and gas abolishments are requested through your retailer and carried out by the distributor; water and sewer are capped at the boundary through the water authority; and the phone or NBN lead-in is cancelled with your provider. These run on the utilities' timetables and are the most common reason a demolition date slips, so we ask you to start them as soon as the job is confirmed, and we check every service is confirmed dead before the excavator arrives. If you would rather we coordinate the requests, say so at the quote.

Where we work

We demolish houses across Geelong — Newtown, Geelong West, Belmont, Highton, Grovedale, Corio, Norlane and Lara — out through Leopold, Ocean Grove and the Bellarine, and along the Surf Coast to Torquay, Anglesea, Lorne and Winchelsea. If the block is being cleared for a new home, our knockdown-rebuild site preparation service covers the hand-over to your builder; if the house contains asbestos, which most pre-1990 Geelong homes do, our asbestos-aware demolition page explains how that is handled first. For a sense of what moves the price, see our guide to house demolition cost in Geelong.

FAQs

Full House Demolition: common questions

Do you disconnect the services or do I?

Arranging the safe disconnection of power, gas, water, sewer and telecommunications is part of the job — a demolition can't legally or safely start until services are made safe. We coordinate it as part of getting the site ready, and confirm it before any machine arrives.

What happens if there's asbestos in the house?

It's identified first and, where present, removed under the correct licensed process before the house comes down — you can't demolish a home with asbestos still in it. See our asbestos-aware demolition service for how that's handled and disposed of.

Do you clear the block completely, including the slab?

Yes. Footings and slabs are broken out, all debris is carted away, and the block is left clean and level — ready for a rebuild, subdivision or sale. Materials are sorted for recycling where practical rather than everything going to landfill.

Can you demolish on a tight older block in Newtown or Geelong West?

Yes — tight access and close neighbours are planned around: machine access, where bins and trucks sit, protection of neighbouring buildings and fences, and any retained trees are all worked out before we start so the job stays controlled.
